Arroyo High School

As Always, Go Knights!

Attendance Office

  • Why Attending School Matters

When it comes to learning, every single school day counts. Research shows that attendance plays a vital role in academic success. Simply put, students must attend school to benefit from it.

Just two missed days of school every month, for any reason, can cause a child to suffer academically and decrease the chances that he or she will graduate. Absences add up—and subtract from learning.

Arroyo High School believes that regular attendance plays a key role in student achievement and recognizes its responsibility under the law to ensure that students attend school regularly. Arroyo High School will abide by all state attendance laws and may use appropriate legal means to correct the problems of excessive absences or truancies.

All absences from class must be cleared through the Attendance Office. To clear an absence, the student must submit a note within three (3) school days of returning to school by the parent/guardian or doctor’s office. Parent notes must be signed by the parent/guardian and include the student’s name, date of absence, and reason for the absence. The parent may also call or Email the attendance clerks.  An excessive number of absences need to be verified by a doctor.

Every student must check out with the Attendance Office before leaving school for any reason. Failing to check out properly will result in a truancy.

    Contact Information:

Please contact the attendance clerk whose alphabet coincides with the first letter of your child’s last name.

Attend Today Achieve Tomorrow

  • DON'T LET ABSENCES ADD UP

  • Saturday Academy is in the Cafeteria every Saturday from 8 am to 12 noon. The only time there will not be Saturday Academy is if there is no school on the Friday before. Saturday Academy is assigned due to having all-day Unexcused and all-day Truancies (both considered Unexcused absences) and is mandatory to attend. So, if you have any Unexcused absences to clear you will need to attend Saturday Academy this Saturday in the Cafeteria from 8 am to 12 noon. Make sure to be on time and arrive a little before 8 am. Make sure to bring your student ID and school work to work on.

You can check on your own if you need to attend Saturday Academy by counting how many Unexcused all-day absences you have. You can see this by going into StudentVue and clicking on “Attendance”. Scroll to the bottom of the Attendance screen and in the bottom right corner click on “Detail”. Scroll further down and count the Red Xs in the “All Day” column. That is how many Saturdays you need to attend.

Attendance Tips

Communicate with the school: If your child experiences challenges that affect their attendance, please reach out to the school for support and resources. We are your partner and here to help you however we can.

Encourage a love of learning: Foster a positive attitude towards school and learning by engaging in educational activities with your child at home.  If there are areas where your child’s school or academic experience can improve, we encourage you to speak with your school principal or educator.

Establish a consistent routine: Ensure your child gets enough sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and has ample time to prepare for school each morning.  If you need help with providing meals for your child or are in need of transportation, please contact your child’s principal.

Schedule appointments outside of school hours: Whenever possible, schedule doctor's appointments, dental check-ups, and other appointments during non-school hours.  Even missing a half day of school for an appointment can be disruptive to your child’s academic experience.

District Attendance Policy

  • It is important that you contact your child’s school if your child is absent from school.

On the day of your student’s absence, you will receive a notification via phone call, text, or email even if the absence has been reported via our district system. Contacting parents and guardians of students who are not in class is an important measure undertaken by the District to ensure the safety of all of our students.

  • Absences that are not excused may result in disciplinary action.

All absences are considered unexcused, until the school receives a note or email documenting a valid reason for the absence.  If the reason isn’t valid, the absence is still considered unexcused. If the note isn’t received within [##] days, the absence is considered unexcused. If a note is received within [##] days, the absence may be reclassified as excused. Unexcused absences are considered “unlawful absences” if the student is of compulsory school age.

  • [School District Name] recognizes that there may be legitimate reasons for absences, such as illness, family emergencies, or religious observances.
