What Is AVID?

AVID, which stands for Advancement via Individual Determination, is a nationally recognized program designed to help students build the academic habits and personal skills they need to succeed in high school, college, and beyond.

Through AVID, students learn how to:

  • Stay organized and manage their schoolwork effectively

  • Take focused notes and use them to study strategically

  • Ask meaningful questions and think critically

  • Collaborate with classmates and build confidence in their learning

Think of AVID as a toolkit for success—helping students not just get through school, but truly thrive.

Who Benefits from AVID?

AVID is designed to support all students, but it is especially valuable for those who:

  • Are motivated to do well but would benefit from extra academic support

  • Want to prepare for college and career opportunities

  • Need strategies to improve study habits, time management, and organization

The goal is simple: to provide every student—no matter their background—with the tools and confidence to achieve their goals.

How Does AVID Help?

Students in AVID often see growth in their grades, confidence, and participation in class. They develop stronger study habits, improve communication skills, and become more independent learners.

Families also notice that AVID students tend to be more organized, responsible, and motivated about their education.
