What Is AVID and How Does It Help Students?

 

At Arroyo High School, part of the El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD), we are dedicated to helping students learn, grow, and succeed—not just in school, but in life. One program that helps us achieve this mission is AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.

What Is AVID?

AVID is a nationally recognized program designed to help students build the academic habits and personal skills they need to succeed in high school, college, and beyond.

Through AVID, students learn how to:

  • Stay organized and manage their schoolwork effectively

  • Take focused notes and use them to study strategically

  • Ask meaningful questions and think critically

  • Collaborate with classmates and build confidence in their learning
